I have known Alan for more than 25 years, during which time we have become good friends. I have worked with him on numerous
projects and businesses during this time and have learned to respect his wisdom. Alan is one of the most insightful and positive
people I know who, and despite having polio and post polio syndrome, he never complains as much as he could do. Alan
often spends his time helping others while battling with his own condition and the pain and discomforts associated with it.
I have often found myself moaning to him about minor issues and then catching myself recalling that no matter what
I have faced, he has faced worse.
My background is primarily in advertising, marketing and design, although I have
created and managed my own businesses and worked as a consultant business developer for a few large dotcom enterprises. I
have also worked in the care industry as a support worker helping victims of servere acquired brain injuries. I am a
child abuse survivor and I have suffered personally from depression and anxiety caused by 'triggers'
relating to my experiences as a child. Today, I am happily married and a dad to 8 children. Apart from working with
Alan I also build and promote websites through my own business at
Eden Valley Websites.
access-ability was Alan's idea and he has worked hard with his wife Sharon to help create
the 10 year history of the site. Together they have dedicated thousands of hours building the original website while also
helping others and fighting the corner for many disadvantaged people.
It would be fair to say that Alan is
like a rotweiler when he stands against an injustice or when a business or service fails to recognise the needs of a disabled
person or their carer. Alan has also fought his own corner against Social Services, Council bureaucracy and prejudices.
We are business partners and best friends and we have always supported each other and our respective wives and children
-through good and not so good life experiences.
Today, we are dedicated to establishing access-ability as the UK's
prime resources website for the disabled community, their families and their carers.
Alan is the founder and the
person doing all the reasearch for site content while I manage the website and the sponsorship advertising.
We
would love to hear from you, especially if you have any ideas for the website or if you can offer help in anyway.
Nigel
